Volker Steufer was appointed Head of Marine, Insurance, Germany & Austria at Sompo in January 2024, based in Cologne.
In this role, he is responsible for leading the Marine portfolio in Germany & Austria, with oversight of underwriting strategy, portfolio management and market development across cargo, hull and related marine risks.
Mr Steufer has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance sector, with deep expertise in marine underwriting.
Prior to joining Sompo, he served as Senior Underwriter Marine at KA Köln.Assekuranz Agentur GmbH. He previously spent almost two decades at XL Catlin, where he held senior underwriting and management roles.
Mr Steufer’s career has been focused primarily on the German marine insurance market, with long-standing experience supporting brokers and clients.
Mr Steufer holds a Diploma as Insurance Specialist for Marine Business (IHK).
