Head of Financial Lines, Insurance, Germany & Austria
René Ehlen was appointed Head of Financial Lines, Insurance, Germany & Austria at Sompo in September 2024, based in Cologne. He is responsible for leading the Financial Lines portfolio across both markets, with oversight of underwriting strategy and portfolio development.
Mr Ehlen previously served as Head of Cyber Germany & Austria at Sompo, where he led the regional cyber underwriting function. Mr Ehlen has more than 15 years of insurance industry experience, with deep expertise in financial lines, cyber and technology risks.
Prior to joining Sompo, he held senior broking and underwriting roles at Aon Deutschland, CNA Hardy and Chubb Insurance Company of Europe, focusing on corporate clients and complex risk solutions across Germany and the wider DACH region.
Mr Ehlen holds a Bachelor of Arts in Insurance Management from TH Köln and completed additional business studies at Queensland University of Technology.
