Head of Property, Insurance, Iberia
Jesús García Matas was appointed Head of Property, Insurance, Iberia at Sompo in July 2023. Based in Madrid, he is responsible for building and leading the Property and Energy portfolio for corporate clients across Spain and Portugal.
Mr García Matas has more than 10 years of experience across insurance underwriting, portfolio management and claims leadership, with a strong focus on property, energy and engineering risks in Iberia and Latin America.
Prior to joining Sompo, he held senior roles at Generali Global Corporate & Commercial, including Head of Claims for Iberia and Latin America and Head of Property & Energy Underwriting, where he led regional teams and managed large, complex portfolios. Earlier in his career, he worked as an industrial engineer at Repsol.
Mr García Matas holds a Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and a Master’s degree in Materials Engineering from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
