Country Manager, Insurance, Iberia
Jamie Cañellas was appointed Country Manager, Insurance, Iberia at Sompo in April 2023. He is responsible for leading Sompo's operations across both Spain and Portugal, with a focus on commercial strategy, distribution, and regional growth.
Prior to this, Mr Cañellas served at Sompo as SVP, Head of Distribution Europe, leading distribution strategy across multiple European markets.
With over 25 years in the industry, Mr Cañellas has built a senior international career across insurance and reinsurance, with expertise spanning distribution, business development, accident and health and specialty risks. Has held leadership roles in underwriting and broking houses, such as AXIS Capital and Willis, working across Europe and Latin America, including Spain, the United Kingdom, and broader international markets.
Mr Cañellas has a strong track record and ample experience in setting up from start underwriting and broking operations for Specialty business and Accident & Health business in London, Europe and Latin America, including setting up Underwriting agencies in the USA.
Mr Cañellas completed executive education at Wharton Executive Education, studied Marketing Communications at the London College of Printing and Distributive Trades and holds Marketing qualifications from the London Chamber of commerce. He is a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society.
