Head of Casualty, Insurance, Iberia
Carlos Ortega was appointed Head of Casualty, Insurance, Iberia at Sompo in September 2023. Based in Madrid, he is responsible for leading the Casualty underwriting strategy and portfolio across Spain and Portugal, with a focus on supporting broker relationships and portfolio development.
Mr Ortega has more than a decade of experience in the insurance industry, with expertise spanning casualty underwriting, liability insurance and commercial insurance distribution.
Before joining Sompo, he worked in London, where he gained experience in the Lloyd’s market. He served as Casualty Underwriter in the International Casualty team at QBE Insurance, and prior to that, held senior brokerage roles at Bowring Marsh Limited, JLT and Lloyd & Partners Limited.
He holds a degree in Law and Business Administration and Management from Universidad Pontificia Comillas and is fluent in English and Spanish.
