Head of Accident & Health, Insurance, Germany & Austria
Axel Baumann was appointed Head of Accident & Health, Insurance, Germany & Austria at Sompo in March 2024. In this role, he is responsible for leading the A&H portfolio across both markets, with accountability for underwriting, business development, and the continued strengthening of risk and compliance frameworks.
Mr Baumann has more than 20 years of international insurance industry experience across A&H, general insurance and consumer lines. His career spans senior underwriting, operations and business development roles in Germany, Luxembourg and the United States. Prior to joining Sompo, he held leadership positions at Chubb, USAA, and Globality.
Mr Baumann holds a Master of Business Administration in Health Management from the University of Applied Sciences Würzburg and completed his academic studies at the University of Bonn.
